How to make a Homemade Mexican Pizza
The process is straight forward and takes identical small time to prepare !
- Place flour tortillas on a baking sheet and bake
- Cook the ground beef
- Add the taco seasoning and refried beans. Mix.
- Layer the seasoned ground beef & bean mixture evenly on 1 tortilla. Place another tortilla on top.
- Spread hot sauce on top.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of sauce.
- Bake for 3-4 minutes or until cheese is melted.
- Garnish with your favorite Mexican pizza toppings.
Modifications and tips for making Homemade Mexican Pizza
- I found baking the tortillas works best. If you prefer a fried tortilla, fry them in vegetable oil.
- Use ground turkey in place of ground beef. Or, make it vegetarian and leave the meat out.
- Grocery stores now sell Taco Bell branded food items such as Taco Bell refried beans, Taco Bell Seasoning and Taco Bell hot sauce. Use those items if you have access to them for more of a copy cat Taco Bell Mexican Pizza.
- Use a red enchilada sauce on top instead of hot sauce if preferred.
- Make and serve immediately. The pizzas can get soggy if made too far in advance.
- Add your favorite Mexican Pizza toppings: sour cream, jalapeños, green onions, black olives, diced Roma tomatoes, avocado, guacamole, more hot sauce, etc.

Preheat oven to 300°F. Place 4 flour tortillas on a baking sheet at a time. Using a fork, poke surface of tortilla about 8 times. (This helps prevent the tortilla from bubbling). Bake for 15 minutes, then cool. Tortillas should be firm and chip-like. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.

In a medium non-stick skillet over medium heat, add olive oil to pan. Once hot, add in the ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Season with salt, pepper and add in the taco seasoning. Stir to combine.

Add in the can of refried beans and mix in with the meat.

Add 1/2 cup of the beef/bean mixture to one tortilla and spread evenly.

Place another tortilla on top and gently press down. Spread 1 Tbsp. hot sauce evenly on top.

Sprinkle a few tablespoons of shredded cheese on top of the sauce. Bake for 3-4 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Garnish with your favorite Mexican pizza toppings. Cut into quarters and enjoy!
